I lent out a ballpoint pen that I liked and didn't get it back. This makes me sad, even though it's a very stupid thing to be sad about. *sigh*

Anyway, the first orchestra rehearsal of the school year was today. I was kind of peeved because they didn't have the music ready until this afternoon and the rehearsal was at 4:40pm. Some people may have afternoon classes, and wouldn't have the time free to practice the music. I was also peeved that they had copied it on 8-1/2x11 sheets single-sided (sheesh people, think of the trees!) and stapled it together (gee thanks, now I just have to pull the staple out anyway). And I feel like sometimes there's just really no point in having a rehearsal where no one has even looked at the music, especially if it's hard. In that case, you might as well cancel rehearsal and send everyone home to practice.

I'm even more pissed that the conductor stuck the freshman violists in the last three chairs of the section. In the violins, they occupy the end of the second violins, and two lucky kids get to be a seat or two removed from the rest of the freshmen in the section (one is in firsts, though). Ok ok, I know seating isn't supposed to mean anything, but people take a lot of stock in it anyway. It seems kind of obvious that this guy likes to play big time favorites anyway, which is very, very not cool. I'm getting bad vibes about the whole orchestra thing already. In the middle of rehearsal, the principal oboist got up and said to the conductor, "Michael, I can't play under your direction. It's been two years and I haven't learned anything," and then left the rehearsal hall. Of course rehearsal continued without missing a beat, but something like that doesn't happen all the time. It really made me miss CYSO... *sigh* I guess I'll give it a semester and see how it turns out.
