Why is Gay Marriage bad?

I don't understand it for the life of me. Can someone enlighten me? Please, I know there are people who read this who likely oppose the idea of legally recognizing same-sex marriage in the United States. Can you fill me in? Why does it bother you?

The only "arguments" I've heard have been weasel phrases like "it undermines the sanctity of marriage". That means nothing. Tell me WHY you think it will undermine the sanctity of marriage. Please, I don't want to argue, I just want to understand why people oppose this, beyond a knee-jerk "gays are bad because the Bible says so, and Jesus founded the U.S., and all the Framers believed exactly what Pat Robertson does". 'Cuz none of that shit is true, my friend.

Can anyone offer me a secular argument against recognizing same-sex marriage in the United States? I'm just seeking some understanding.

Help me out here.
