Last week we had a string of unreasonable thunderstorms. Sue and I just love them. We cherish them and every time we have one, we giver serious thought to thanking our lucky stars that we're in Texas. But, they scare the crap out of Solstice.
The poor thing can no longer sleep at night, despite the fact that there hasn't been anything close to a thunderstorm anywhere close to Austin for a week now. She dreads bed time, wakes up a billion times, then finally insists on either coming into our room (where the whining may or may not stop) or coming down stairs if we're still up.
Tonight she told me that she can't sleep because of big thunder. At least the pink elephants have subsided for the time being. She's on the couch now. Her head on a pillow, covered in a throw blanket, clutching "baby Dumbo" in her arms. I actually started to pack some things up tonight, and I had quite a mess going down here when she stopped sleeping entirely. Nightmare. Now Sue has to come home to an awake Soli. It's just no good. And the little Lunabird sleeps well until about 4am, when she insists on having me invest an hour or so in her, then they both sleep till about 6:30.
I hope this sleeping stuff ends soon. I can't remember sleep being just a normal part of my day. Too bad.
