ziqueenmab and I saw The Prestige last night. It is a seriously wicked movie; we both left the theatre blown away, and are wondering if we can survive not seeing it again until it comes out on DVD.
(If you haven't seen or heard anything about "The Prestige": it's a movie directed by Christopher Nolan (Memento, Batman Begins), starring Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) and Christian Bale (Batman) as two rival Victorian-age stage magicians who are each obsessed with outdoing the other. The movie also features David Bowie (!) as Nikola Tesla (!!) and Andy Serkis (Gollum) as his assistant. And there's a trailer
here!)
The movie is wonderfully crafted; for example, as Julie and I were driving home from the theatre, we both simultaneously grokked the "meaning" of an early bit of foreshadowing and were greatly amused. If you intend to see it, I strongly recommend avoiding all spoilers. It's a dark movie (and a bit of a gut punch!) but well worth seeing. I've seen it compared to Usual Suspects and Slevin in style, but it also acts very well as a spiritual successor to Memento. Good times.
For those of you who have seen the movie and want to gush about multiple counts of Brain Breaking, I dedicate the comments to spoilers. :)
