Going off to lunch with my best friend from high school; good chance we'll be seeing King Kong aferwards. He hasn't seen it yet, though he's played the video game. I've seen it, and I have no problem with seeing it again.
A short review: do you know how little kids take all their dinosaur and monster and action figure toys out of the plastic bin and throw them at each other, mashing them into huge piles, shouting "Rarr! Rarrrrr! And then he fought three at once!!!!!!!!! Raarrrrrr!"? That's King Kong in a nutshell. :)
It's Peter Jackson, director of overindulgent horror flicks and master of the language of visual effects, being given the chance to remake his first love, and with absolutely no restrictions (like editing) placed upon him. It's brilliant, breathtakingly gorgeous, and absolutely draining. It's also very flawed. This is not an example of masterpiece cinema. It just Is. And it's damn awesome.
