hey all. i just got back from my audition for Austin Lyric Opera. My motto this time was to say something with my playing. that if it was a little messy, who cares, i just wanted to make a statement. I advanced to the finals and played some REALLY hard excerpts, including tannhauser and a different don juan excerpt than the usual one. I made runner-up. a girl that goes to rice got the job, and i spoke with the principal violist and she said that a spot would probably be opening up in the near future and that they'd keep me in mind for subbing with them.
I'd say I did a good job. it's as close as i've come to winning without actually winning the spot. i'm gonna work really hard for san antonio (it's on march 24) and see what happens. who knew that trying to say something with your playing got you so far? and here i thought winning an audition was all about playing like a robot.
im off to run around the rice loop, 4.5 miles from my house, around the loop, then back. woot!
