Title: Choices
Fandom: M*A*S*H
Word count: 248
Rating: G
Summary: What would have happened if Radar had become concerned instead of angry that Hawkeye had walked out on a patient to throw up.
Author's Notes: Takes place after Hawkeye tells Radar that most of his blood came out of a vodka bottle (season 6, episode 2: Fallen Idol).

“But Hawkeye, I’ve seen you drink,” Radar said. “What happened? And don’t lie to me.”
Hawkeye sighed and looked at the wall. He couldn’t handle looking at that sweet, innocent, naïve face.
“It’s you, Radar. Every day I see hundreds of men who couldn’t avoid being hit due to this damn war. But you. . .there’s no reason you should have been hit. I could have prevented it. It’s my fault you were hit.”
“Ahh Hawkeye. Unless you’re fighting with the Koreans, it wasn’t your fault. I could have taken Captain Hunnicut’s advice and waited. I wanted to go. Besides, there are plenty of people who make it to Seoul and back again, without being hit.”
“Maybe you’re right Radar. Now get some rest. I’ll see if Klinger can get some Strawberry Ice Cream for you.”

“He is different Beej. He’s older,” Hawkeye said, lying on his bunk, facing the top of the tent.
“And he’s right.” B.J. sat on the end of his bunk, facing Hawkeye.
“But if I hadn’t insisted. If I had allowed him to listen to you. I’m a doctor. I should know better.”
“You’re human. You’re not perfect. We all make mistakes, we all have regrets. But we have to learn not to beat ourselves over them.”
“What do I do now?”
“What you are doing: love him. Be there for him. Treat him how you would if it was myself or Trapper on the mend. Be with him. Just don’t blame yourself.”
