Summary: Paul tries to cheer up Tom with baked goods
“Going for a run. Need to clear my mind.” I scribbled on to a note, and left it on the coffee table in the living room. I grabbed my iPod so I would be focusing on the week that sleeping in on Saturday hadn’t erased. I would be finding out on Monday if I was getting the project, and my every thought seemed to be on that. I hated how I worried about things out of my control, how I would let it consume me. I didn’t mean for it to happen, it just seemed to. I turned up the volume of the music, hoping to prevent myself from thinking. I pushed myself to run faster and harder.
I stopped, placing my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath, every intake of air burning my throat. I walked home, trying to ease the cramp in my stomach.
I walked in to the smell of baked goods.
“What did you make, hon?” I asked, taking out an earbud.
“Homemade Strawberry Banana Cheesecake. Your note sounded like you were having a rough day.”
“Aww, so this is for me? Thank you.”
Paul came over and kissed me. I pulled away when I felt his hand going up my shirt.
“I’m all sweaty,” I said, laughing.
“I can be soon too if you’ll let me.”
“I love you, but I’d rather shower and have some cheesecake.”
“Okay, fair enough,” Paul said, pouting.
I gave him a quick kiss.
“We can cuddle on the couch while eating.”
“I’ll put on Ghost.”
“Sounds like a perfect date. I’ll see you in fifteen minutes.”
“Fifteen minutes.”
