"Now," Anne said, one morning.
"Now?"
"I'm ready to start trying to have another child."
"Are you sure?"
Anne nodded.
Gilbert pulled Anne into a kiss.
"I love you so much, you know that, right?"
"Yes. I love you too. Which is why I want to have a child with you."
"It's a boy," the doctor announced.
Anne squeezed Gilbert's hand.
A cry was emitted from the small body.
"Would you like to hold him Mrs. Blythe?"
"Yes!"
Gilbert helped her sit up and the doctor handed her the baby.
"Hi darling," Anne crooned. "I'm your mommy. And this is your daddy."
Gilbert sat on the edge of the bed with her.
"He has your eyes," he commented.
"And your nose. Gil," she looked up at him meaningfully. "He's going to live, right?"
"Yes. He's healthy."
"Let's call him James, after Captain Jim."
"He'll love that. We can call him Jem for short."
"Because he's our little gem.
"Hi Jem-baby. You have an older sister. Her name is Joyce. Did you see her in Heaven?"
Jem gurgled.
"He's beautiful."
"Yes. But with such good looking parents, how could he not be?"
Anne laughed.
