Kevin's Reason to Stay Faithful

I'm taking a break from my catch-up with Hath Not a Jew scenes because Brothers & Sisters fans need a reason to believe in Kevin/Scotty again (especially after the episode on tonight).

A/N: Thought all of us needed a positive Kevin/Scotty story (aka, one without cheating).

“She’s so beautiful,” Kevin whispered, standing over Shelly’s crib.
“We did good. Let’s go into the living room so we don’t wake her,” Scotty whispered.
Both men left the room and Kevin shut the door behind them. He sat next to Scotty on the couch.
“She’ll be alright, right?”
“What do you mean?”
“I thought Elizabeth would be teased for her biological father being her gay uncle. But Shelly has two fathers.”
“You know what they say: two dads are better than none.”
Kevin said nothing, giving Scotty his best “not helping” face.
“Honestly, yes she probably will be teased. We both know how cruel kids can be. We both know how cruel parents can be. All we can do is be the best parents we can be. I honestly believe we have the abilities to raise a strong, lovable child.”
“I know. I’m just scared.”
“It’s because you’re a loving parent. I wish my mom had cared that much about me.”
Kevin placed his hand on top of Scotty’s.
“I think at least part of her does cared about you. Unfortunately, she was thrown a curveball, and didn’t know what to do.”
“Is it really a curveball?”
“I wish it wasn’t, but if it weren’t, it wouldn’t be called ‘coming out.’”
“If a kid has gay parents, do they find it necessary to ‘come out’ as straight?”
Kevin covered his mouth to stifle his laugh.
“I think we’ll figure it out when we catch her with her first porn magazine.”
“God Kevin!” Scotty said, shutting his eyes in horror. “Seriously, I don’t need such images in my head.”
Kevin laughed a little before pecking Scotty’s cheek.
“You can do better than that,” Scotty said with a smirk.
Kevin leaned in to give Scotty a long kiss.
“We’ll be good parents, I promise,” Scotty said.
“I guess we both learned how to be bad parents, so we can just reverse those teachings.”
“We learned how to be good parents too. You from Nora, and me from my dad. . .well, minus the cheating.”
“You know, one of my first memories of you is from the pool party.”
“My amazing Red Velvet Cupcakes?”
“No. I mean they were. You were such a flirt. But that’s not what I’m reminded of.”
“How no one would pass me the Mango Peach Salsa?”
“No. Though I’m glad you think I am more polite than I was then.”
“Yes, you do pass me things now without your mother’s prompting. Okay, I give up. What memory are you recalling?”
“Standing on the stairs looking at the picture of my father, and you saying that those with problems with fidelity aren’t having them because of their sexuality or gender, but because they haven’t found a reason to stay faithful. Which hurts when I think of my dad, because it means five kids and a wife weren’t reason enough for him. However, it’s a good thought when I think of myself. I used to have such a problem with fidelity, as you know. But ever since we first started dating, I’ve always been faithful to you - to a fault in fact. Heck, I proposed to you. For me to propose, you know I have to be confident in my ability to stay faithful - and yours. Though I never doubted yours. But now, not only do I have you, I also have Shelly. I will never never do to either of you what my dad did to my family.”
“See, things always work out,” Scotty said, putting an arm around Kevin’s shoulders.
“Only while I’m with you.”
