I had "Where I'm From" by Jason Michael Carroll in my head.

Summary: A female on a plane recognizes Kevin from Kitty's political stuff, and thinks he has it all made.
Kevin leaned back against the plane seat and closed his eyes. He mindlessly played with his wedding band, wishing Scotty could be making this trip with him.
“Hi,” he heard from beside him, so he turned and opened one eye to see the speaker.
“Hi,” Kevin said, resigned that he had someone chatty next to him on the plane.
“I’m Maddie,” she said, offering hand.
“Kevin,” he said, shaking it.
“Where are you going?”
“Washington, D.C. to visit my sister.”
“Wait, you look familiar. Are you Kevin Walker?”
“Yes.”
“And your sister is Kitty McCallister?”
“Yes.”
“Okay, I’ve seen you on TV. You’re one of those rich kids who has it all going on.”
Kevin laughed bitterly. “That’s what you think of me? My life has been far from easy.”
“Really?” She seemed skeptical and for some reason Kevin had an overwhelming urge to prove her wrong.
“When I came out to my father, he stopped talking to me. He once tried to fix things, but it had gone too far at that point. I paid my own way through law school, and did my best to let work take over my life. I had a wonderful boyfriend named Hank, but when he suggested wanting to settle down, I left that relationship. I had no faith in gay men to stay faithful, and I sure as heck didn’t want to try and remain faithful myself. Then, Scotty walked into my office. He was annoying, and extremely flamboyant. But there was a confidence in him, a resistance that attracted me. He knew his convictions and he wouldn’t let you change that. We went through a lot of fights and break ups. But then, after a lot of shit, I wound up proposing to him. Our life is not easy, but I wouldn’t trade a moment of it, because I love Scotty.”
“So you’re trying to tell me, you got where you are because of what you did?”
“My family may be well off, but we don’t accept charity from them. None of us do. Scotty was living in his car for a while early on in our relationship.”
Kevin looked into the distance and smiled.
“Do you have a picture of Scotty?”
Kevin pulled out his wallet and showed Maddie a picture.
“He’s cute,” she said.
“Yes he is,” Kevin said with a proud smile. “He’s my whole world.”
“I’m sorry.”
“You’re sorry?”
“Not for him being your world,” Maddie said with a laugh. “I meant for judging you. You’re more down to earth that I expect for someone involved in politics. I wish you and Scotty the best.”
“Thank you.”
