"You're sure you want to do this," Percy said, suddenly stopping and grasping Audrey by the arm.

They stood at the boundary of his parents' home. From a distance, she could see the house looked haphazardly built, but the dusting of snow and ice on the roof and windowpanes and the tufts of smoke curling out of multiple chimneys made it look charming, inviting. Despite her nerves, she was excited to see the home in which Percy had grown up.

"Of course I do," she said, shifting the bottle of Elderflower wine she was holding to her other hand. "Why wouldn't I?"

"My family can be a bit…" he paused, apparently trying to think of the right word. "Well, they can be a little spirited at times. My brothers-"

"I think I can handle it," she said. "Unless you don't want me to come."

"No, no, I'm just giving you a way out. If- if you want one," he said uncertainly.

"Come on," she said, pulling him toward the house.

As they reached the door, he gave her a warm smile, one that made her heart race because it held the promise of many future Christmases spent together. Then he led her inside.

They entered through the kitchen, which was warm and bustling with activity. Audrey immediately loved the disorder of the cluttered room. Unlike Percy's stark flat, this place was homey, comforting. A plump, cheerful woman that had to be Percy's mother was using her wand to simultaneously scrub potatoes and stir the contents of a pot on the cooker. The thin girl with shining red hair could only have been his sister, Ginny. Audrey also recognized Percy's sister-in-law Fleur, the former Triwizard champion, with her silvery blond hair and Hermione Granger, who had recently been lauded by the Ministry for her heroism during the war. Audrey wondered how she would ever fit in.

"Happy Christmas," Percy called out.

Audrey tensed as everyone stopped what they were doing to look at them.

"Percy, dear," his mother said, rushing to embrace him. "Happy Christmas."

"Mum, this is Audrey," he said once she released him.

"I'm very pleased to meet you," Audrey said. "Thank you for inviting me."

"We're happy to have you," she said. "Percy, you know where to put her coat. Everyone else is in the sitting room."

"Can I do anything to help?" Audrey asked.

"Oh, no, dear, just-"

"I could use some 'elp with ze parsnips," Fleur said, smiling kindly and beckoning her forward.

Audrey smiled back, grateful. Though it was difficult to believe, she wondered whether Fleur had had similar worries about being accepted at first. Either way, she was glad for the opportunity to help. Audrey shrugged off her coat and handed it to Percy along with the bottle of wine they brought. Then she stepped forward, receiving the welcome of the other women, and got to work.
