The prodigal returns
Despite appearances to the contrary - I'm not dead - I've just not been around here and le CBB much for the past 6 months.
So - my life - what's been happening - usual stuff - concerts and suchlike, and the Guiding and the choir has been going on as well.
Another major audition mess-up at the Op Society - who managed to break their own rules by letting a member of the audition committee audition and then giving her the part over me - and then lying when pressed for a reason why they'd done it.
Camping - I've been under canvas 3 times so far this year. End of May with Ben up near Pickering (nice relaxing re-introduction to camping), July with most of the District for Pirates of the Caribbean camp, and then a couple of weeks ago we went to the 1st ever Discworld Jamboree ('twas mad, as can be expected when you take Scouting/Guiding & Discworld and mix 'em all up). We're off again next weekend as well back to Pickering (praying for good weather).
And ah yes - the weather. Alas we were affected by the first round of flooding in June. We barricaded the doors as well as we could (seeing as the council didn't think we were a danger area despite the roads being rivers at the time we called) and so the water came in through the airbricks and up through the floor. We didn't get any standing water, but the carpets were squelchy and the floorboards are having to be replaced. Hence we've had to move out, lost pretty much everything wooden that was downstairs (excepting, thank the Lord, the electric piano, which has plastic feet) and are currently living in a flat in the City Centre, being paid for by the Insurance (which by the way, is now due for renewal... see the premiums double!)
And that - is pretty much a potted summary of the last six months - am now settled fully in the new job at the shipping spares company (was originally Maternity cover, was then decided an extra pair of hands would be useful and I could electronify all the lists, then lady on Maternity leave decided not to come back, C'est La Vie!) and in the Guiding (and I will get all my evidence for the ALQ sorted these hols so that I can get properly warranted come September), and have been asked to take part in meetings at church about getting the kiddies more involved, and am also hard in rehearsals for Iolanthe (I'm a dainty little fairy... (allegedly!)).
