new baby willow

There I was, dressed in Ren clothes and aching to hug a 2 week old baby cow. Never did I think I would fall in love at first sight of a red, fuzzy baby. The Goddess is so wise to make babies so adorable as to do such a thing. Time did not allow for any bonding. Later tho, while waiting for feeding time we played 'chase' in the yard. I would chase her and then run away and hide behind something. Sometimes she came around to find me and did, sometimes I snuck behind her and chased her. It was quite fun. I was able to get close to the baby, that's all I wanted. Little Willow adores her Auntie Rowan, bucking her head between Ro's legs to let her know how she was STARVING to DEATH and could you PLEASE do SOMETHING. Finally, food came. I gave her a bottle which she sucked very energetically for about 10 minutes, making those cute baby sucking noises, flaring her pink nostrils, her blue eyes so blissful. Her belly filled out. According to some, 2 quarts is NOT enough to satisfy and baby finished her meal by sucking my fingers and hands until her belly sent the message to her brain that she was indeed full. Willow also loves to be scritched while feeding and Rowan showed me her special spot low on her chest that sends her to a happy place. She will just lay her head on your arm and let you scratch right by her leg. AHHHHH!!!
Next morning at 5 a.m., feeding time again! Another blissfully happy experience for both Willows. Scratching and eating....Tho no chocolate was involved, it was still very satisfying. I whispered to her that she was beautiful and so clever and pranced so lightly on her little hooves. The most wonderful of Highlands ever to be born. (Hey, if I was a baby cow, I'd like to hear that!!!) The sucking of fingers commenced again and then was over. Later that day, we went out to look for the baby to put her away before we left the farm for town. She was no where to be found. Three wet women walking in the weeds mooing and calling. Nothing. Where was she? The rain came down, worry descended...Rowan checked one side of some tall weeds, I checked the other. As we were walking away we heard a "mmmaahh" and out popped little Willow dry as a bone. I swear she was laughing at us, was she playing hide and seek?
Later again as time was heading on for a feeding, Little Miss needed to suck my fingers and hand to hold her over till she ate. We did this on the porch and the picture of her here is from that time. She wouldn't leave the porch till a bottle appeared, laying in front of the door waiting. I told her what a clever baby she was and tried to take her mind off her hunger by petting and rubbing and letting her suck, but she was not fooled (clever, remember?). Nothing is quite so insistent as a hungry calf. Finally fulfillment!
I am so honored to be the Faery Godmother to this little one. She has endeared herself to me in so many ways. Ir will truly be a wonder watching her grow in to an adult and seeing how she does.
