Labyrinth by Kate Mosse

My review

rating: 5 of 5 stars
I REALLY loved this book. Another grail book following on from the success of Dan Brown, but, to my mind, much better written.

Sure, it's no 'Holy Blood, Holy Grail', or a footnoted history book, but as you can buy it in the fiction section this is hardly shocking. What we do have is a book that appears to be wonderfully researched on the history side. Mosse really creates 13th century France in your mind, and doesn't shy away from the more gruesome aspects of what happened in the Languedoc region at the time.

It does keep you guessing right until the end. Yes, some of the plot elements you can see coming a mile off, but there was at least one twist that I didn't see coming until it was revealed about 20 pages from the end.

It has also made me want to visit the old medieval city of Carcassonne, and it is now on my list of places to go.
