I've been a smidge obsessed about living circumstances lately.
I accepted this as a fact after having dreams at least 4 out of the last 6 nights that took place with me inside my own home. That's the only aspect of any of the dreams that I can remember - and none of them were "nightmares". *laugh*
I've been looking at what's available in a whole bunch of places including:
East of ABQ
Phoenix (the northern fringes of the city)
Spokane, WA
various towns in Montana
Portland, Salem & Eugene, OR
San Antonio, TX
Sat. night I went out and stayed with my friend Tammy who lives in in Macintosh, NM - which is east of ABQ. I'd been out to her place once before but drove out and returned in the dark. I knew it was flat farmland as far out as she is (40 miles east of the city). I learned yesterday afternoon and this morning that it was just TOO flat for me - and too windy - a bit TOO remote - and a smidge too "trashy".
Unfortunately, the only way I could afford property by myself would be to go out about that far. It would probably be much more valuable in about 2-5 years as they're building a casino out there- and also maybe a hospital. But...there are far too few trees.
so.... East of ABQ
Phoenix - this is still a viable candidate - especially after having found an AWESOME message board of trail riders that are all over the state. Downsides: 1) The heat. 2) The heat. 3) The heat. If I was choosing AZ strictly for myself, I'd go up somewhere north of Sedona - probably Flagstaff - though maybe Payson - but Payson probably wouldn't be big enough to sustain a massage biz. However, the entire reason I'm considering AZ is L - and with the foolish NYC-like traffic there - being anywhere BUT within a 20 min. drive of him would take away the purpose. Phoenix is a weak candidate right now - tempting as he is (and he is...it kills me that he has to live THERE of all places) *sigh*
Spokane & OR = probably weather that'll kill me - but I really DO want & need to go visit and explore sometime soon. So most likely Spokane & OR towns/cities
Montana - I've just always had a feeling it must be beyond imagination in terms of beauty - and would probably provide all the seclusion, quiet and beauty I could stand. Not too sure about the winter thing though. I've kinda been enjoying SW weather *grin*. It's a highly unlikely candidate at this point, but I won't cross it out....yet.
San Antonio came into play a week or so ago. It seems rather random - so here's the "why": My dad lost his job in Boise and as it happens - he was offered one in San Antonio. He and Lori will be moving there in the next week or so. On a lark I went and looked at some photos of the area, found topo & relief maps, and then looked at some real estate on the market. It's cheap. Seemingly VERY viable that I could afford a home with at least 2 acres - possibly even with a horse stall/barn/etc. already built on it. Afford it on one salary even - and it's a big enough city to support a practice - and Austin is only 1 hr to the NE. I've spent most of the time I've been bumming around on the laptop this weekend researching this possibility. I can get to the ocean in like 2-3 hours by going SE to Corpus Christi, 4 hours to Houston, 8 to Dallas if I'm remembering correctly. San Antonio is seemingly at the SW edge of where TX turns into rolling hills and such (heading from there east) and the plains to the west which lead into some mountains right around where it reaches NM. There are oodles of lakes and rivers - tons of trees, abundant parks and trails for riding and hiking. I'm feeling pretty enticed by the SW crossed with trees and water *laugh*
Anyway, there's where it's at right now.
