Love or something like it.

This week at Checkmated, we posted a question in our Meta Monday thread about who was the first (Ron or Hermione) to realize they loved the other. It sparked a few comments about the concept of "love at first sight," which made me curious. So what do you guys think?

I believe you can be taken by someone at first sight, but I don't believe in love at first sight. I think love involves so many emotions wrapped into one, it's too complicated for it to start (or end) in a moment. To really love takes time.

I like the idea of soulmates, but I don't if there's a soulmate out there for everyone nor I think it's limited to romantic love. I don't know how realistic it is, but I do love the idea that two people are just meant to be (I'm such a hopeless romantic).

I think a soulmate doesn't necessarily have to be the person you fall in love with. Love takes many shapes and forms. I think we feel a different kind of love for the people that come into our life. For example, I don't think what you feel for a 'first love' is ever matched. The experience of falling in love the first time can't ever be replicated. But later, you can find someone that you love in a different way, perhaps more intensely, more permanently, with a greater passion, with whom you're willing to fight and learn and compromise in order in stay together. Complicated, I tell you. :)

Such an interesting question!
