A/N: This is for justthismorning, who prompted me with the opening dialogue. It’s also for matty_parkman who I promised to write fic for while I was still on vacation. Sorry it’s late Matty, but I hope it works for you. I’m almost certain there will be more to this but for now I’m leaving it where it stands.

“I don’t know… Are you sure this is a good idea?” Jared asked following closely behind Jensen he didn’t want to lose his friend, not out here.

“Yes, don’t you want to see your mommy?” Jensen asked as they stood on the sidewalk contemplating which direction to go to best find Jared’s mommy. When he’d been dropped off at The Center what felt like a million years ago he’d been scared ‘cause his mommy looked sad. But she’d said he had to stay there, and she would see him again; that everything would be ok. Now that they were out everything was much scarier then when they were in a car. Jensen was starting to rethink his decision to leave when he saw Jared starting to pout. He had to be strong and get Jared back to his mommy. It was his job. Jared didn’t deserve to be stuck there, just because Jensen didn’t have a mommy no more didn’t mean Jared should be away from his. So he grabbed Jared’s hand and pulled him along behind him away from the big brick building. They stopped again when they ran out of sidewalk and it was just the street in front of them. They had to cross. This was where Jared piped up again.

“Jensen, maybe we should just go back. I mean my mommy said she’d see me later, so maybe yours will too; right?” Jared tugged on Jensen’s hand to get his attention. “Come on, I’m scared.” Jared really didn’t like it outside. He wanted to be back with his mommy where it was safe.

“I know you’re scared, but we had to get away from there. You just gotta remember where you live so we can get you back there, back to your mom.” Jensen said. He really didn’t want Jared to be stuck at The Center. And maybe, Jensen’s mind supplied before he could stop it, she’ll be so happy that Jared is back she’ll keep you too, and you won’t ever have to go back to The Center either. They crossed the street quickly when the cars stopped and other people were crossing too and stopped when they got to the other side. “Don’t you remember any part of your address? You have to be kind of smart otherwise you wouldn’t be at The Center.”

Jared moved further down the sidewalk toward some grass that marked the start of a park. He remembered his mommy talking about how smart he was how he knew his shapes and colors, letters and numbers way before any other kids she’d ever heard of. That’s when the lady had come to their house and asked him lots of questions and made his mommy sign lots of papers. Then she got real sad and packed some clothes for him. That night when he was falling asleep when she would normally tell him a bedtime story she just hugged him real close and told him to never forget home. And she’d whispered in his ear. “4-1-1 Folcroft Street. That’s my address. My mommy told me to never forget it. So now we can go there and I can see my mommy again.” Jared stood quickly from his spot on the grass.

Jensen had to be smart about it as he walked them up to a ‘Directory Post’ he’d have to put in an address close to the one Jared gave him. If he put in that exact one it would be traced and they’d both end up back in The Center before they got anywhere near Jared’s house. When they got to the ‘D.P.’ Jensen made a quick wish that everything would work and touched the pad thinking ‘Folcroft Street’ but no number. He looked at the map that was brought up quickly figuring out that they could get there by ‘The Rail’ but they’d have to be careful neither of them had tokens and you could get in a lot of trouble for not paying. “Jared do you remember what The Lady said you were best at when she was talking to your mom?” Jensen asked hoping that it was scrambling. If he could get Jared to scramble the map here and maybe the terminal at the ‘Rail’ stop they’d be set.

“I don’t know something about frying I think.” Jared said and he was near to tears again. There was too much noise, and he was scared. He just wanted it quiet. Jensen’s eyes lit up, Jared didn’t understand how that was a good thing but he guessed it was. Frying was a million times better then scrambling. Jensen was jealous for a minute, cause he couldn’t do anything that cool. He was just a calmer, and not a very strong one either. He realized Jared was getting upset and quickly took his hand again hoping it would be enough for now. Jared calmed immediately which was weird. No one had ever calmed that quickly for Jensen. They were connected, now Jared’s mom would have to take him.

“Jared can you do me a huge favor?” He waited till he had Jared’s full attention. “I need you to make this post not work. It shouldn’t be too hard. Just touch it here and think about your favorite toy that doesn’t work anymore.” Jensen placed Jared’s hand just on the edge of the pad and thought of clear blue skies and his favorite meal. After a second he felt the jolt on the edge of his mind that told him Jared had connected with the directory and was in the process of breaking it. He thought of jumping in leaf piles and eating ice cream, and all the fun happy things he’d done with his mom and dad before the accident. A few moments later Jensen knew Jared had done everything he could when all of the younger boy’s weight was pulling at his arm. He’d passed out from doing too much too soon. Jensen quickly pulled him away from the post over toward one of the trees at the edge of the park. When he came back awake Jared was smiling.

“I did it. And I saw how to get to my house. But you gotta come with me. I’ll be scared if you’re not there.” Jared said getting to his feet once again and turning toward the Rail Station. He was going home, and Jensen was coming with him.
