Sam and Dean: Physical Displays of Affection.

I was talking to cheesecakemove and she mentioned how Sam and Dean don't seem to touch a whole lot. She is working on a 'Lyrical Motivator Series' and was asking for episodes where they have physical contact with each other. I listed off a few that I could think of (Home, What is and What Should Never Be, The Pilot (fight), Tall Tales (again it's a fight) Faith...) and there were several I wasn't sure of (Something Wicked, Heart, Houses of the Holy...) Those aren't taking in to account 'All Hell...' and 'Mystery Spot' (cause they are the obvious ones). I was wondering if you, my dear F-List, could come up with more definite episodes where they offer touch as a way to connect/comfort.

So anyway in response to her 'they don't touch enough' I said this:

I get it in the context of the show (they are 'tough-guys/warriors/manly men' whom I think daddy (who I love dearly) taught that displays of affection were 'weakness'), even though it breaks my heart a little. That's what I love about 'fannon', so many authors have it as their own personal cannon that when the boys were little and moving from motel to motel they often shared a bed (which was technically 'Jossed' in the Christmas episode, but then again I'd imagine that by the time Dean was 12 or 13 he was starting to pick up on the whole 'no physical displays of affection' thing). So they got their 'cuddles' in when they were Wee!Chesters. I think that had things been different and Mary not died in that fire they probably would be more affectionate (What Is... aside, as it was influenced by Dean knowing), Because Mary came across as very giving with hugs and cuddles. Even John did; in the pilot Dean came running to him and he just scooped him right up (I think if there'd been more room he probably would have spun him around 'airplane-style').

But in thinking about it in 'real-world' terms I'm not super touchy-feely with my siblings... Mind you we didn't have anything near what Sam and Dean had happen when we were young. And I mean they have the contact when it matters. I also like to think that with episodes like 'Heart' how it 'faded to black' on the Single Manly Tear of Dean's that after that 'fade' When Sam came back into the room Dean saw him starting to 'close up emotionally' and probably grabbed him around the back of the neck and hugged him for a good long minute.

That's just what I think about it, how do you feel?
