Title: Lazy Summer Sunday

Author: Lady Taevyn

Rating: G

Disclaimer: Jensen and Jared belong to themselves. I’m just making this stuff up.

Summary: Jensen knows how this works; they’ve been coming to his grandma’s house every Sunday afternoon and staying through dinner for as long as he can remember.

A/N: This was inspired by the recent picture of Jensen and Jared standing against a wall in suits. I made a comment on munibunny’s journal that in the picture Jensen looks kind of uncomfortable (like a six year old who’s been told not to play in the mud in his Sunday best). So this is for you Muni. Happy Belated Birthday sweetie. ILU.

“Jensen Ross, if you even think about going near that puddle I’ll skin your hide so raw you won’t be able to sit for a week. You hear me?” Donna calls from the front door of grandma’s house just as Jensen was starting to edge toward the grass. He looks up cheeks going pink wondering if his momma really can read his mind.

“Yes momma, I hear you.” He says continuing up the sidewalk. Jensen knows how this works; they’ve been coming to his grandma’s house every Sunday afternoon and staying through dinner for as long as he can remember. But this time something is different. This time there is a big truck out in front of the house across the street and people are taking boxes off of it. Jensen turns to make sure the screen door shuts and he sees a boy running full stop off the ramp of the truck with a box of Lego’s almost too big for him to be carrying. This is good news; now Jensen will have someone to play with instead of having to sit quietly while his momma and grandma talk about people in the family Jensen has never met. He takes his shoes off before stepping into the ‘great room’ and making his way over to the box where some of his transformers and G.I. Joe’s are kept.

“…They’ve had that truck parked out there since Friday; I think they have a couple of boys maybe Josh and Jensen’s ages. It’ll be good to keep them busy between the time y’all get here and dinner.” His grandma is saying when she and his mom come back into the room from the kitchen. “Sherri and Gerald Padalecki are their names. I didn’t catch the boys’ names. Think we can trust Jensen and Josh with a plate of brownies after supper?” Jensen’s head peeks up from behind the sofa where the epic showdown between He-Man and Megatron is happening. He thinks that this time Megatron might actually win. It’s not looking good for He-Man. But that can wait. He decides that making a new friend is way more important. Jensen flashes his biggest grin to his mom letting her know he heard and that he likes the idea.

Jensen is on his best behavior all through his parents and grandparents talking and dinner even though Josh kicks him under the table like a million times and he so wants to throw his peas at him. But the thought of meeting the neighbors is too tempting. Finally just as the sun is starting to tip behind the big oak tree in the back yard his momma calls him and Josh into the kitchen.

“You boys better be on your best behavior. If they are busy you come right back over. Your daddy and I will be over in a little while.” With those words Donna hands the plate of brownies to Josh (because he’s older) and sends the boys on their way. They cross the street quickly and before they can even knock on the door it’s being opened and they are invited in.

“Hi, I’m Josh, and this is Jensen. Our Grandma lives across the street and wanted us to bring you these.” Josh says thrusting the plate at the woman that answered the door.

“Well wasn’t that sweet of her. Come on in. It’s very nice to meet you both. My name is Miss Sherri.” The woman says ushering the boys into the house and closing the front door. “Jeff, Jared; come on out here now. There’re some people who’d like to meet you.” She calls out to the house in general. And just like that Jensen Ackles meets his best friend in the whole world.
