[IC Information]
Name: Rue
Gender: Male
Age: Technically hundreds of years old, but he's only been awake about a decade. Appears to be in his mid-teens.
Series: Threads of Fate (game)
Species: Doll (Created Human)
Appearance: Rue looks like a pleasant enough guy. He's of average height and has enough muscle to look like he can hold his own in a fight. He's got light, grey hair that's pulled back into a short pony-tail and grey-ish brown eyes. On the center of his forehead is a blue gem, but Rue usually has it covered with a trippy green hat. In fact,
Rue's entire outfit is pretty strange, but that's JRPG for you. Of note is his weapon always carried on his back - a huge, circular blade (Arc Edge) that he uses as a shield, too.
Personality: Rue's an honest and polite, straight-forward kind of guy. He's definitely not a champion of justice, but he's got his own sense of right and wrong. He's a bit reserved and pretty patient; Rue doesn't mind being a doormat to some minor things, but he does have a backbone and he's not afraid to use it.
In the beginning, everything was about duty to Rue. His reason for searching for the [relic] was because he believed it was his "duty" to save Claire. Towards the end of his story, he realizes that it's not his "duty," but his will to save her. His master, Valen, questions this saying that dolls should only worry about their duties, but Rue stands up for his sense of will and heart. He prevails as his own person, not just Valen's doll.
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses: Rue's a skilled fighter, though he lacks magical capabilities. Instead, he has the power to morph into other creatures by defeating them. He can "store" up to four different monsters in his morphing inventory and when he acquires a new one, the oldest one is deleted and so on.
Rue has a piece of the most powerful [relic] created - the Dewprism - embedded in his forehead. This gives him immense power, but it's only brought out a few times: under great emotional distress, and when Valen and/or his dolls force it out of him. (I actually have no idea what this "power" really does except make him temporarily stronger tho. :|a)
Brief History: Rue's first memories are of waking up in a container in some ruins without a clue as to who he was and what he was doing. After wandering around aimlessly, he collapsed in front of the house of Claire, a young woman who took him in. The two lived peacefully together, pretty secluded in a field with their own barn and everything, but one night they had an unexpected visitor.
This visitor has a huge ass arm, claw-like, so Rue tried to fight him off. However, he was no match and Claire, who tried to get the other guy to back off, was accidentally killed in the process. Enraged, Rue ignited a mysterious power within himself and fought the guy off.
Though dead, Claire's spirit hitches a ride with Rue and the boy vows to bring her back by any means necessary. Thus his quest for a [relic] begins. After three years, it lands him in the quaint port town of Corona. He quickly befriends a man named Klaus, who happens to be researching a certain [relic]. The two join forces to uncover the whereabouts of this powerful item.
Along the way, Rue meets Mint, an exiled princess hell bent on World Domination with the aid of a [relic]. She refers to Rue as her rival and the two sort of work together in doing the dangerous part of finding the [relic]. Despite her bossy attitude, Rue kind of goes along with it. He also meets two treasure hunters who - though at first work against him - team up with him later on when he explains why he so desperately wants to find the [relic], a wandering swordsman who makes weapons and likes to test them in battle, a strange witch that requires he play games with her helpers before seeing him, and an old dragon that makes him prove his sincerity before assisting him.
A crazy pink witch's world and a few dungeons later and they're all set to get Valen's [relic], but Mint's sister, Maya, appears with advisers from her kingdom to stop them from unsealing the Dewprism. Unbeknownst to her, they are double crossing dudes with the intent of finding the Dewprism and reviving Valen. Their boss, Doll Master, reveals to Rue that it was he who killed Claire on that snowy night three years ago, but it was an accident bro! Let's revive our pops 'cause it's our duty.
Rue says no. Doll Master says fine and kicks all of their asses, then creates a fortress and goes about his duty. But Rue's one of the protagonists of the story, so of course he goes and stops him. He also shows Doll Master the error of his ways, saying that living only by duty will never get you anywhere, it's the will that counts, etc.
He goes on to face Valen. At first, he thinks Valen is a cool dude because he revives Claire's physical body, but he is sorely disappointed when Valen takes that body as his own and rants about how he's going to be god. Rue has to fight Valen in Claire's body which kind of SUCKS, and after that, the old bastard fuses with the Dewprism to beat Rue's doll ass down.
Too bad his own ass gets handed to him. With Valen's destruction, the Dewprism shatters. The fortress crumbles, Rue passes out with Claire in tow. He wakes up three days later and wonders about Claire, but she's safe at Klaus' house. Unfortunately, she still hasn't regained consciousness... so Rue follows their advice to chill for a bit.
That's kind of hard for him, considering all he went through to bring her back, but hey. She eventually meets him in the center of town, they talk of how they had scripts planned when they would finally be reunited, but totally can't remember them now that they're together again and choose to hug instead. Happy end get!
Some time later, Rue is contacted by Princess Maya about another doll found in some ruins. The doll is all about duty man, gotta revive Valen! But Rue convinces him that it's not all there is to life, and takes him home.
Some time after that, Mint charges through their door with news from Klaus. Apparently he's found hints of another [relic]! And damnit, she didn't get her wish even though Rue did, so he owes it to her to help her out this time! After Claire asks him what his heart is telling him, Rue agrees to go with Mint. Outside, they pay their respects to a mound with Doll Master's mask on it, the game ends and there is no sequel despite the obvious tease. Damn you, Square!
What instrument? Bass.
On a scale of one to complete badass, how awesome is this character? Six, maybe. He's coo', but not extreme or anything.
What is the MOST AWESOME THING your character has ever done in canon? The obvious answer would be kicking the most powerful Aeon's ass, but I say...
Conveniently bend down to tie his boots right when Mint tried to jump kick him. She sailed on by and into the water below and he remained completely oblivious to this.
... Okay so my definition of AWESOME is retarded, don't hate. :(
