Well, there were ten plagues all in all. And all of them for the sole reason of God proving to the Pharaoh that he exists and to have him free his people. In the end, they stopped because the Pharaoh did free his people.

... I'm not sure how that applies here.

It does not make sense if you do think about it that way. But, don't you think they're just loosely basing these plagues from the book? And not necessarily following every turn of events?
