Whenever I hit her... she takes on the same damage?

[She runs away from her own self, or what seems to be herself, thinking of something to retaliate with, but she can't think of anything. This is her own self, how will she even fight it? She runs some more as various arrows rain from her opponent. She keeps on dodging... but she can only do so ( Read more... )

[This... This isn't new. She's felt this horrible guilt before. The blood of those two victims -- one killed in rage, the other in sorrow -- has weighted heavily on Umi's heart ever since that tragic day in Cephiro.

Equally covered in blood, she stands beside Fuu. To be there and share the burden of their guilt together, that's all she can do for her friend.

She gently places a blood-slick hand on Fuu's shoulder.]

...Fuu... We... did what we had to.

I know it's horrible... We'll have to live with it. EVERY DAY of our lives, we'll carry this burden.

...That's right, we're murderers. We had to kill you both for the sake of Cephiro.

Nothing removes the guilt of what happened. But we'll learn to live with that, knowing that we helped protect our friends.

We've--! ...We've carried this guilt since it happened. Isn't that enough??

This... [Umi stares down at her bloodied hands, then clenches them into fists as she fights the tears from coming.] This blood on us is what we've had to live with. Isn't this enough punishment??

[Fuu's silent beside Umi as she listens to the two. She doesn't know why she's so powerless like this. As if she doesn't have any control over her own body, as if her will's... just not there.

"Emeraude", though, has complete control over her own actions and words.]

No, it's not. Death can only be repaid by death. [And to her surprise, "Emeraude" quickly grabs Fuu by the arm.]

...Sorry, but... That's something I can't allow.

[Umi's sad determination may have wavered and tears may be peering from her eyes, but she's quick enough to hold onto Fuu to protect her.]

[She yanks Fuu more forcefully this time, fully intent on harming her.] I can't? We'll see about that!

[With an open palm directed at Umi, "Emeraude" blasts her with a potent energy beam. Well, that's certainly something the pillar of Cephiro will do.]

[There's a sharp cry. The blast of energy sends Umi flying several feet away from the other two. Now she's injured, and it's her own blood mingling with that put there by the dream.]

No...!

[But even in pain she gets up, as she will as many times as it's necessary, and faces Emeraude with determination.]

I won't let it happen!
