Sam was still half-dreaming as he came to consciousness. Gabriel was close. He was coming to save him from Lucifer.
There was a huge part of him that was relieved. His real mate was coming for him. In less than a day's time, he could be with Gabriel on some far off island, just being reacquainted with each other.
The rest of him was terrified. What if Lucifer hurt Gabriel? What if he killed him? Or, worse still, what if Gabriel didn't want him anymore after knowing that Lucifer had laid his claim to him? Sam wasn't sure he'd survive the rejection.
The only soothing part of the whole ordeal was knowing that Lucifer was unaware. He didn't know his brother was coming for Sam, and the Hunter wanted to keep it that way. If there was any chance Gabriel could make it out of this alive, Sam would take it.
