Food, glorious food

As you all know, nisaba cannot chew, and is unlikely to regain the ability to chew for 6-8 weeks, and that could be an optimistic prognosis. I thought I'd update you on how it's going from my side... It upsets me to see Peta struggling to eat, and that she occasionally has to watch from the sidelines as I tuck into something she'd enjoy - while I'm going ( Read more... )

Oh, and if you want something a bit more summey, guacamole might be a good thing to make; very very finely chop (or food-process) some red onion, some tomato, a little fresh chilli, and a couple of leaves of fresh coriander (it can be overpowering, so don't overdo it!). Mix up with some lime juice, and let atand for a little while, so that the flavours all get jiggy together. (Honestly, the guy who taught me this said exactly that!)
Half some ripe avocadoes, and scoop out the flesh (neat tip for getting the stone out; hold the half with the stone in in the paml of your hand. Take a large knife with a reasonabl heavy, sharp blade, and hack it into the stone, so the blade gets wedged in there; twist the knife slightly, and the stone should pop out cleanly) into a bowl. Using two forks (or a potato masher), mash the avocado as thoroughly as you like (if it's ripe, this will be easy, and it won't matter much if there are unmashed bits anyway. Add the onion/tomato/chilli/lime mix, check the seasoning and add more lime, more chilli, more coriander, or a pinch of salt as needed.
