As part of my caving social outreach programme, I took
nisaba,
denalyia and
magfish to the South Wales Caving Club, at Penwyllt, in the Brecon Beacons this weekend, to introduce them to the non-goth version of the world below ground. Initial prospects weren't too bright, what with Aideen's claustrophobia, and Peta's fear of looking daggy. Aideen and Christa arrived at

That was the wet, dank, dripping, slimy one, wasn't it?

never, i tells ya, never! i may have looked like i was sprawled (giggling helplessly) over that rock on my stomach yesterday, but inside i was still climbing. and i'm off down the castle straight after work this evening to make sure my skills are still intact! ;-)
anyway, thanks for inviting me this weekend, i REALLY enjoyed it! oh, and i had a dream last night about climbing down through the corkscrew again - does that mean i'm officially a goner?

Yeah, I think you should enjoy climbing like a climber while you can - soon you'll be using the brute force and ignorance method I employ.
I'll be sure to invite you along next time! (Are you around August bank holiday weekend?)

You all had the right attitude - I don't expect you to be amazing at caving, but the fact that you all gave it a go, and didn't give up when it got a bit tricky, that was the important bit. For a first trip, you all did really well (according to magfish, someone suggested it was a tough 1st trip, and would often be a 3rd or 4th trip, so well done!)
Digging weekend will be the weekend of my 31st birthday, and I'm planning on being in Wales for that, now that I know nisaba doesn't hate the place!
If you need to know where to get better gear, let me know, I can probably point you in the right direction.
