The island has been the top destination for holidays for a lot of people from all over the world. Its economy is dependent on the revenue generated by the tourism sector which includes every luxury and small hotel Barbados. However, the recent global recession has had its negative effect as increasingly less people go to the island.
Thompson urges the frequent visitors to use whatever means available, such as social networking sites like Facebook, to share the best images, experiences, and encounters they have enjoyed to help with the island’s promotion. He adds that the country is dependent on their visits and is the reason why it is crucial that they let other people know what a great time they have had.
He notes that the government will be employing the use of simple measures to help their country recover from the global economic recession. He believes that it is important to promote their tourism product by building loyalty and patriotism for frequent visitors. Such people can look forward not only to more cocktail receptions at the Ilaro Court, the prime minister’s official residence, but to other activities from the Friends and Family Program.
Specifically designed for the Barbados Diaspora in key overseas markets, the program targets to increase tourist arrivals in the country and at the same time give rewards to members who have exerted effort in reaching out to their families, friends, colleagues and other acquaintances in convincing them of going to island nation for a visit or a revisit.
The Prime Minister expresses the need to involve the youth in tourism efforts. Numerous primary and secondary school children will be invited to interact with guests to listen and learn from their stories and experiences and then share them at the planned cocktail receptions.
Countless of repeat visitors are delighted with the Bajan culture and are extremely captivated by the special night out that was especially planned and prepared for them. Many of the guests, all of whom had already persuaded their friends and family to support the country’s tourism, voice out that they are impressed and pleased with warmth they received from the locals. The hospitality they experience and the friendships they have formed here over the years are incentives enough to keep coming back.
