Yay for surveys! Somewhat long...

Jan 18, 2007 00:33

So tonight I was driving home from work and I heard “To Be With You” by Mr. Big and I felt all of these wonderful emotions. It is a song I had completely forgotten about but I knew by heart (I’m sure you all do…or you should) and it brought back all of these memories. So…I decided to make a survey about songs.

Music is a way I have been able to track my life and past. Certain songs evoke certain emotions and I can usually remember when I first heard that song or a certain event that happened around it. I decided to take a random sampling from my music collection (I got my songs by looking at my play count on Windows Media Player…so all of these songs have been listened to 9 times since I loaded them on my computer) but you might find an easier way.

Take 5-15 random or specific songs and talk about any of the following:
1) the first time you remember hearing that song
2) the emotions it provokes
3) what memory/person you connect with that song
4) something of your choosing

1)Smooth Criminal- Alien Ant Farm
-this song always reminds me of this guy named Thaddeus who I had the biggest crush on.  In eighth grade I visited a friend and went to her homecoming dance.  When she introduced me to Thad he gave me the biggest hug and I was hooked.  This song played at the dance and Amanda told me that Thad’s band covered this song…so it always makes me think of him 7 years later…haha
2) Meltdown-Rooney
-this is one of my favorite Rooney songs…it transports be back to high school when I was obessed with Rooney…extremely obsessed.  I would spend hours and hours on their message board in my parents basement with the oldest computer and dial-up.  This is an unreleased song and it reminds me of when Rooney was still mine, before they released a actual cd. This song makes me feel edgy.
3)In The Meantime-Tim Blane
-this song reminds me of Drew and my friends Lisa, Clarissa and Norma.  We saw Tim Blane at The Space and we have a certain way of saying his name (there is really no way to spell it out).  It makes me think of how Clarissa accidentally stole a keychain that she thought was free and got the nickname Klepto.
4)Candlebox-Candleshop
-this song reminds me of my sister and the 90s.  I was really young when she lived with us but this reminds me of how she was a moody rebellious teen…haha
5)Laura-Sissor Sisters
-this song reminds me of Stuart, who suggested it and the many hours we spent chatting. It makes me feel very funky and it’s the kind of song that I could dance around to in my house while cleaning….haha
6)Ne Me Quitter pas-Regina Spektor
-this song reminds me of the semester from hell and my apartment. This was the first Regina song I heard and it also makes me feel funky
7)Clarity-John Mayer
-this song reminds me of how John Mayer annoyed me and sings funny. I was at this hippie festival and for some reason Maroon 5 (who I love) and John Mayer were playing.  I was in the front row for Maroon 5 but when John Mayer came on I ended up walking out because my feet were sore and I didn’t really like him…this makes me laugh because now I actually like some of his stuff…and I could have heard it live…and very close up
8) Love Is A Marathon-Teddy Geiger
-in 11th grade I watched this reality/talent show to find a new Partridge Family on VH1.  My friends and I were in love with this guy and how funny he was in his interviews.  He didn’t make the final cut and I was so angry. When we found out he had a CD coming out like two years later we freaked out and were so surprised…
9)Coconut-Harry Nilsson
-this song reminds me of the twin I went with to prom in 10th grade. We had a very awkward dinner before the dance where neither of us knew what to say…I guess I could say it was my first date…but it was prom…so I don’t really count it. It also reminds me of Practical Magic. This song makes me feel really sexy for some reason…but do not confused this with my memory of the twin….
10) Orginal Prankster-The Offspring
-this song reminds me of Pep Band. My teacher transcribed this for us and named it Orginal Banker for copyright reasons…haha. I always liked this song because I actually played the melody...which doesn’t happen very often when you play the Baritone Saxiphone
11)Ransom Diaries-Quietdrive
-this song reminds me of Vans Warped Tour 2004…and oddly enough, the other twin. I drove down to Vans Warped with him and we stayed over at his cousin’s house.  His parents were in China for a month so he had the house to himself so there were a lot of friends over and it was so messy.  There were about 20 guys there and I was the only girl. He was also very hot and I had a huge crush on him for awhile, coincidentally he was also in a band. This song always evokes really strong emotions in me and I love to sing the chorus as loud as I can. This band is from Minnesota and they were still small when I saw them first.  It was towards the end of the day and they caught my eye because one of the members played electric violin…which always turns me on.
12)Simple Man-Lynard Skinard
-this song reminds my of this guy named Brian. In high school we always traveled around going to local band concerts.  Deanne’s cousin was in a band with this guy named Brian.  He liked to play this song on his guitar repeatedly.  He was my friend Alissa’s first kiss. I listened to this song constantly during my first bought of really bad depression a few years ago, oh memories.

I am tagging these people because I think they are either really into music and will enjoy doing it, like to analyze life and the past, and/or have spare time to waste:
