Worst Day in So Long

Ice Storm, right?

Yeah...so last night a truck jacknifed on I-24 just south of Cadiz, Kentucky and caused a huge pileup of people waiting behind it for it to get cleared away. These people were running out of gas and becoming increasingly cold so they abandoned their cars and walked somewhere safe and warm. During the night, the storm did not abate and these cars were covered in more snow and ice turning them into effectively immobile blocks in the road. Come this morning, the truck situation is mildly better but now there are these cars to contend with.

Enter my family at 8 this morning. Our cars are terribly iced over but I'm making short work of this situation with the aid of some warm water and various shovelling implements. At around 10, we're all packed and ready to go and after a little adventure getting out of a slick driveway, we were headed out, albeit slowly and cautiously.

Around 11, we grind to a halt on the highway.

We stay here for three hours.

We move a total of about 250 yards this way and are stopped at each place for like an hour. We're all miserable and it's not like we can turn around. Eventually we start up again and we move at about 25 miles an hour for an hour or two.

I'm tired of writing about this because it was so terribly dull but suffice it to say that a four hour car trip ended up taking nearly 12 hours. I am tired and beaten but alive and in the company of family. I'm outy 5000 kiddos and tomorrow nigth is Christmas Eve.

PRESENTS!!!
