MMM! Korean food is really good! My friend J from Smith cooked Korean for us last night, and I have to say I was very impressed. J studied in Korea for a year, and her homestay mom taught her how to cook really well. Everything was spicy, but in a really good way - I could feel so many different flavors alongside the spices. And the GARLIC . . . oh, I was in heaven!
J taught me how to eat with Korean metal chopsticks, which I honestly find a lot easier to work with than wooden ones - I'm always afraid that I'll push too hard on wooden chopsticks and break them. I actually passed the Korean kindergarten test - J got me to pick up a single grain of uncooked rice with my chopsticks! Cool!
J is working on writing a Korean cookbook, and she's offered to make me her guinea pig - she'll teach me to cook Korean as long as I don't mind the fact that she's still figuring out how to teach people to cook Korean food. I think I'm probably the idea beta tester - I have minimal cooking experience altogether, and J's biggest fear is that she won't be able to explain how to cook all of the different recipes to someone unfamiliar with Korean methods. :) Should be fun! She's also going to take me to a Korean grocery not far from my house where we can apparently get good spices, produce, and other foodstuffs at wholesale prices. So, a new skill, time with a friend, and a chance to cut my budget even farther than I already have. SCORE!
Really looking forward to seeing everybody at BF and LS's wedding! :) E-mail me if you don't have my number.
