crossing over

Watching John Edward, famed TV psychic, is pretty sick. These people are so desperate that they'll cling on to anything he says to make it fit in with something a dead relative could say. I'm not even sure I get the point of the readings. He never reveals anything important, like the location of a hidden fortune, for instance. The whole thing is about deciphering cryptic clues based on letters and numbers.

He spent five minutes figuring out what the "double B" could be. Who was "buh-buh"? Barbara? Barbie? Bubby? The family eventually related it to a daughter, whose friends called her "Soccer Beebs" (short for Bebe, they said). What did the spirit have to say about Soccer Beebs? Nothing, really. Just a friendly "how-do."

The saddest part came when he interviewed the woman later about her lost husband:
"His last words to me were, 'I'm bowling over my average.'"
