It was a good weekend! Saturday and Sunday were busy days and both very different. Best of all, they were spent with friends.
I got to Steph's house on Saturday at "noonish". We hung around for a few hours at the computer. I played some of my remixes for her and she and I began a remix of The Who's "My Generation". I told her she needed to finish the mix for homework. It should be a good 'un. We then went out and had lunch at a Mexican restaurant across the street from Gen. Mitchell Airport. We passed a restaurant called "Final Approach". Clever name for a business near and airport, but a little morbid for the name of a restaurant. Anyway, we spent a few hours at the unrelated Mexican restaurant eating and having deep philosophical conversations. We then returned back to her house and watched "A Mighty Wind". Still hilarious.
We then left for R & G ARE DEAD, which was a great show. Only one or two weak performances, but R & G were great. It was weird because about eight cast members are also members of the Ren Faire; it was interesting to see them outside the Faire setting. They were all great. The show could've been called THE AUDIENCE IS DEAD, because... well, they were. Steph and I, along with much of the cast went out to TGI Friday's after the show. Had some good conversations about the reasons why storytelling has been a constant event since the beginning of history. We all had interesting theories, all of which I think are true. The day ended around 2:30 am when I got back to Woodstock. Overall, it was a great day. I got to know Steph more and I saw a good show!
Sunday I got to sleep in (ahhhh). Found out that the Cubs clinched the NL Central division!! WOOO!! I went to see "The Rundown" with Jason, Lisa, Paul, Nick, and Scott. I hadn't seen Scott in, like, three years, so that was nice. The movie was great. It really was a lot of fun and there wasn't a dull moment. The Rock has really improved as an actor, Seann William-Scott actually didn't remind me of Stifler, Walken was hilariously self-mocking, and Rosario Dawson was hot AND acted well.
Saw a preview for "The Matrix Revolutions." Hmm. I'm not sure how I liked "Reloaded." It seemed filled with a lot of the same technical mumbo-jumbo dialogue to fill the plot between the action scenes, which were great. I don't know; the whole movie just seem empty and more complicated than it needed to be.
After the movie, we went to Jason's and played some "RAW 2". I changed my wrestling theme to the "Imperial March" from Star Wars. Nice. Learned that Lisa is going to be in the opening with Noelle in LOVE RIDES THE RAILS at Stritch. That'll be cute! Then, I ran some computer-related errands that helped drain my bank account and came home. Learned that Elia Kazan died, which blows. Now, I'm looking forward to seeing some Buster Keaton silent films on Turner Classic Movies that I've never seen before!
Yes, it was a great weekend highlighted by a rejuvenating of friendships. And on top of everything else, I bought some peanuts for the Elephant Man.
Go Cubbies!!
Takin' care,
Neil
