So on my lunchtime errands I stopped by Trader Joe's to pick up some almond extract (which they seem to have discontinued) and grape tomatoes (which they have not). My total purchase was $5.98, so I handed the kid behind the counter a $5 bill and a Sacagawea $1 coin. She studied the coin, holding it close to her face.
"Um, I don't think we accept these," she said.
"You don't accept dollar coins? It's United States currency!"
A pause. I was about to add that it was legal tender for all debts public and private when she said, "Oh, I guess we do, then."
The government's inability to settle on a design for the dollar coin isn't helping, but still.
stupidity
