Have you got a few days to listen? I'm going to focus this answer on what I would change about how we elect the President.
1. I would get rid of the electoral college. The winner of the popular vote wins the election, period.
2. Mandatory public campaign financing and spending caps.
3. We need to do something to make it easier for candidates who aren't from either of the major parties to be heard. I don't know what, though. I would convene a think tank on this issue, I guess.
4. Pipe dream department: no questions about the candidate's sex life or religious beliefs allowed.
5. Restore felons' right to vote.
6. Major voter registration and education drives in all Veterans Administration facilities, state hospitals, homeless shelters, and prisons.
7. One uniform means of casting a ballot for everyone -- probably involving a piece of paper and a pen.
There's more -- about redistricting, for one -- but that's a good start.
