Yesterday I went to the office for the first time this year... And I was reminded just how much of a workout it is to make the journey ^^; I usually log my commute as a "cardio" exercise with my Garmin watch, because otherwise it logs it as nearly 4 hours of "high stress" in a day... And to be fair, walking 15 minutes to the station over hilly terrain, standing for an hour on a packed train, transferring at Shinjuku station with several stairs, standing on another train for 20 minutes, then walking to the office for 10 minutes IS quite the cardio workout, lol. According to Garmin, I needed 28 hours of recovery from my morning commute, and 46 hours of recovery time by the time I got home in the evening (it builds up if you don't take the recommended amount of rest)... And to think that some people do this whole commuting thing every single day!! It's absolutely insane! No wonder people collapse or die from over-exhaustion ^^;;;;
Anyway, it was nice to talk to people at the office again! People are so busy at the beginning of the year that they hadn't been replying to my messages, but now I could just walk up to them and be like "about that question I sent you two weeks ago..." and then they were forced to finally give me some answers.
It looks like we're going to be translating a ton of visual novels and other games again this year, so there's plenty to do (yay, job security)! Our parent company made a whole bunch of announcements at their new year's event, like
this one (Yep, working on some of those), and
this one (working on this, too) and...
This one! "Bushiroad, Eighting Officially Reveal Hunter x Hunter Nen x Impact Fighting Game"... Wait, what? They're... No, we're making a HxH game!? All right then... I haven't heard anything about whether or not I'll be directly involved with the English version of it (if there's going to be an English version? I don't think they've even mentioned that yet), but it seems like a possiblity, because they are already having us translate games for other larger, existing franchises (like the Revue Starlight one and a Mushoku Tensei one), so... I'm really hoping for it, because it would be so cool to get to work on something HxH related in official capacity! It would really bring things full circle too, because it's directly thanks to HxH that I have my current job... XD
Slightly related, I finished watching the anime Nami Yo Kiitekure the other day - One of the characters in the game I'm translating right now says that her favorite radio DJ is Minare Koda, which is a clear reference to this anime and manga, so I checked this out to get a better understanding of the character in our game. I don't know how this slipped beneath my radar when it first came out, because it's right up my alley! It's so unusual to see an adult slice of life anime, and by that I mean "it's about working adults", not that it has any adult content, lol. I've been listening to a lot of Japanese radio in recent years, so it was nice to learn some behind-the-scenes stuff about radio production, and I loved how the show simply showed everything going on in the main characters' lives and work without focusing too much romance or forcing any couples together in the end, because that's just how life goes. The inclusion of a real-life disaster (the 2018 Hokkaido earthquake) was also really neat, it depicted so realistically what kind of role radio really plays in the event of disasters like that, and why radio is still important even today. Having it in the last episode seems like an "unexpected twist", but that's really how earthquakes are - they don't care if it's new year's day or if it's your first day at work or whatever, when they happen, they happen. It felt especially relevant in light of recent events. =O
I also watched the 9th anniversary Touken Ranbu stream, 'cause it happened to pop up in my mobile game when I opened it that evening. I'm excited for more anime, but instead of an adaption of a stage play, I'd rather see some original content... It seems like an odd choice to adapt that. I was wondering if they were going to have the stage actors voice the characters, or the anime seiyuu, but it seems like it'll be the anime seiyuu. It's an interesting crossover, but... here I'm still waiting for the Katsugeki movie, I'm much more curious about that =( They did acknowledge that it still exists, at least! The wanpaku thing looks adorable too, although I'm wondering if it'll just be several-minute anime shorts, rather than full episodes, because... what are they gonna do story-wise? I'm looking forward to being surprised, though xD
