I Just Have to Get It Out ...

I just got my "bucket" of 8 o'clock meds. This shift's nurse is new, but she seems nice and also competent and the PCT for this shift is one of my favorites, so I am settling in and feeling like it's going to be a good night ( Read more... )

Wow... just wow. I actually will NOT use a vest. I get clausterphobic. Usually once I'm feeling well enough I do exercise, but until then the PT's do therapy manually. Every time. I've never had one complain. Ever. Actually, the most trouble I've ever had with a PT is them wanting me to do stuff when I REALLY have wanted to get out of it because I'm not feeling well. I'm not sure what a percussor is...
It's been my general experience that most nurses are on MY side. I take 4-6 enzymes with meals, and by the end of my stay I always end up going home with a collection because the nurses are always bringing me extra "just in case" I eat something someone else brings me, or because they happen to be in the bin, and I might as well have them instead of them going to waste. I have had problems with the pharmacy in the hospital sending up the wrong stuff before though. I know it's not the nurses. Usually the issue is that they did something stupid like mixed my antibiotic in dextrose (I'm diabetic) and the reason I end up getting my meds late is because the nurse has to send it back and make them do it again.
I know you already requested not to have that nurse, but just so you know it IS okay for you to request not to have someone. My mom's a nurse, and she says it happens to ALL nurses, even the really good ones sometimes. Nobody takes offense, sometimes personalities just clash. Usually if you talk to the head nurse supervisor on the floor, they'll make sure you don't get the person again. You don't even have to explain why if you don't want too. (Though with the complaints you have, I'd sure as hell WOULD.) It can be as simple as you just don't get along with them. You don't have to have a valid complaint. I had a problem with a nurse who I thought was being lazy once, and that's what my mom told me... of course it was after the fact, so it did me no good.
Are you in intensive care? Is that why you don't have a bathroom?

That is awesome that you mom is nurse! You really know all the ins and outs then.

I'm out of ICU and in a regular room now. Still cannot walk to the bathroom by myself (even though the bathroom door is about 6 feet away from me), so I have had to use a commode. Sad too, because this floor of the hospital was recently redone and the bathrooms are actually really nice! Well, I guess that gives me something to strive for - to use the nice new bathroom - ha! Sad but true.

Maybe I'm spoiled... but I can't live without a real bathroom. If it were me, I'd be calling that nurse in to walk me to the bathroom every time. That's one of the few things I'm pretty insistent on... bathroom time is ME time. It's the little bit of privacy I can keep for me. I'm too stubborn sometimes. I suspect people want to MURDER me when I get like that.

You'll get there!
