This shouldn't surprise anybody that knows me but, I'm excited to see the Kunio series be revived. This revival is one of the big reasons I'm glad I own a DS, even. I already own Super Dodgeball Brawlers, and am enjoying it, and there are
two more entries in the series coming stateside within the next few months. So, yes, very excited.
It interests me that the new games are being given the River City name. It's good that they're making it clear that these are all part of the same series, and River City Ransom is arguably the most recognizable entry of the few from the original series that saw release here back in the day. So... yeah, it makes sense.
At the same time, it's interesting that they're sticking with the original Japanese names for all of the characters. I have nothing against this, per se, since I'm pretty familiar with those names at this point. The mixture feels kind of weird, though. It's a River City game, but you're playing as Kunio and Riki instead of Alex and Ryan. The title is Americanized but the characters are still Japanese.
I can live with that, though, if it means more Kunio games coming stateside. So, in a nutshell, River City has a thriving Japanese-American population now, I suppose.
