I couldn't keep my son from suffering years of pain and torment. He was scarred, outwardly and inwardly, and I wasn't there to save him.

I couldn't keep my daughter from becoming an animal who attacks and hurts all who cross her path. I fear I won't be able to save her from prison, or even from death.

The doctor was right; I truly am a failure as a mother.
