Gotham City World's Fair, Gotham City, January 20, Afternoon

Apr 22, 2013 21:54

Somehow, it had already been about four months since Bruce and Andrea met. Bruce's standard operating procedure would have included moving on about two months ago and finding about eight or nine other girls to take out and show off at public events by now. Instead, he was actually making extra time to see this Andrea. And he was enjoying himself. This was in addition to the time he was spending fighting crime, of course, and taking care of all of his other responsibilities. So really, it was even more amazing that he'd spend this much time with one person just because he liked her.

Today they decided to go to the just-opened Gotham City World's Fair. After taking a ride through 'The World of Tomorrow' (which, frankly, seemed a lot like the world of today plus robots), Andrea seemed to be in a thoughtful mood. "Do you think we'll really see any of this in our lifetime?" she asked. But Bruce was a little distracted by a sleek, shiny, semi-futuristic car. It was giving him some ideas. "Bruce? Bruuuuuuce, I'm talking to you."

It took a moment for Bruce to snap out of the plan he was already putting together for the car, but once he did, he gently took her hands and apologized. "I'm sorry, Andi. My mind was on something else."

"Like what?" she asked, starting to lead him away from the awful distraction of a car and toward the exit. That car didn't even look practical.

"Oh, you know. Just the future," Bruce answered.

"Anyone's in particular? Or just the generic brand?" Andrea asked, not shooting for subtle.

"You know," Bruce said, leading her outside and towards his town car.

"No, I don't," Andrea said gently but with more than a note of teasing. "Since when do you talk to me about your plans?" But she was happy to leave it at that and not hassle the poor playboy, so she changed the subject as they reached the car. "By the way, Dad's been wanting to meet you."

"...Oh yeah?" Bruce asked cautiously.

"But I told him you're not up to it yet," Andrea said kindly.

Bruce even seemed to surprise himself when he said, "I could meet him."

Andrea's face lit up at that. "Great! I'll call him right now." She stood on her toes to give him a quick kiss, then hurried to take a seat in the car so she could make the call in privacy. Before she dialed, she checked, "You sure about this?"

"Sure I'm sure," Bruce said, exuding confidence. But the instant she started dialing, Bruce turned to Alfred, who had been waiting by the car this whole time. What a trooper. "What the hell am I doing, Alfred? This ins't part of The Plan. I must be going nuts!"

"If I may be so bold, Master Bruce," Alfred said in his most parental voice, "I'd say quite the reverse."
