Room 513, Saturday morning

Keeping a secret life secret was difficult. Keeping a half dozen secret lives secret was nearly impossible, unless you were clever about it. For example? Sure Bruce had several secret marriages. But he used the same wedding ring for each one. That way he didn't run the risk of wearing the wrong ring. All he had to do was make sure only the right ( Read more... )

Quinn Fabray Hudson Evans Wayne didn't talk to her most recent ex-husband all that often. He was the past, Peter was the future. (Even if Peter remained stubbornly oblivious to that fact.)

Still, business was business, and she had to admit Bruce still had a certain sinister appeal. Even if there was currently a problem.

"Bruce?," she said tremulously from the doorway. "Do you know what's going on with the chinchilla ranch? The lawyer said there wasn't enough money in my alimony account to pay for its upkeep."

A pause. "You know how much I adore the chinchillas." They gave value to her empty life!

"I remember," Bruce said, looking up from his paperwork. He paused for a moment to remember the past wistfully. WISTFULLY! "But in this economy, the cost of keeping that many chinchillas is skyrocketing. I can only spend so much on chinchillas, my dear Quinn."

"But even if you don't care that I love the chinchillas, think about the ones who die of old age," Quinn suggested. "Their fur! Do you know what will happen to the costs of furs in this town with no chinchillas who died totally natural deaths to contribute?"

They ... probably didn't really die natural deaths, but Quinn had latched onto that explanation for where furs came from and refused to consider any other. (She also thought minks were big into suicide.)

"And think of all the poor chinchillas we'd have to let out on the cold street! Can't you cut back someplace else?"

"Well, at least they'll have fur coats when they're out on the cold street," Bruce joked. "We'll donate them to the pet store. Let the little rodents be their problem. And you can still visit them until they're all sold."

"It's not the same," Quinn said sulkily. "But I guess it'll have to do."

She leaned against the door frame just for a moment, looking a little wistful herself. "I guess that's it. Unless you want me for something ... else?"

"Oh, Quinn. You know there's something I'll always want you for," Bruce said.

After saying that, he noticed something in his paperwork. It was a note. A note that said:

Hello Bruce and Lucy,

How did I know you would be together here to read this? I've been watching you, you see. Watching for months now. But I can sit by and watch no longer! You will pay for what you did to me all those years ago. Pay for all the pain you put me through!

"Oh god," Bruce said. "What can this mean?"

[OOC: Note written by the adorable child.]

"Too bad I'm not the only -- what is that?"

Quinn interrupted herself and went over to read the note. She gave Bruce an uneasy look.

"No one calls me by that name. Who --?"

"I... I don't know," Bruce said. "It just doesn't make any sense!"

"None at all," she agreed. "Unless -- do you think it's ... you know. I can't bear to speak of it. I thought those days were long behind us."

The writers might not have known themselves, but music was ominous anyhow.

"It can't be," Bruce said. "What's past is past. It can't possibly come back to haunt us now." It seemed like a perfectly logical line of reasoning.

"Of course not," Quinn said. "We closed that door, and locked it, and ... bought a chinchilla farm. If this had to do with that --"

She cut herself off again.

"But it can't. It's just someone trying to scare us."

"They probably guessed about the name Lucy. That's... reasonable, right?" Bruce asked.

"Sure," Quinn said, trying to be reassuring and failing. "It's a perfectly common name."

She gave Bruce a sidelong look. "You didn't mention it to one of your special friends, did you?"

"They know nothing," Bruce said. "I know how to keep a secret."

"I know you do," Quinn sighed. "And I know no one but you and my parents knows that name, and my parents are ... gone."

Mysteriously so, as it happened. They might be back for sweeps.

She shrugged. "I'll keep an eye out for anyone who seems funny."

"I'll let you know if I get anything else," Bruce said softly. "Just... be careful, Quinn."
