This may take some getting used to. I can't say I'm familiar with items like these. But it seems to be how everyone communicates ( Read more... )

...capture one's heart? What are you even talking about?

And I wouldn't go job hunting just yet. That implies that you're looking to get comfortable here, doesn't it?

The heart felt in a handwritten letter? Are you not familiar with that? That's why Gaichuu are attracted to bundles of letters and such, because they seek the heart written into them.

While I'd very much like to get home soon, I'm afraid I'm not very good at sitting still.

No, I don't really know what you're talking about.

I can't imagine what sort of job would be that necessary on a caravan. And I don't exactly know how you'd get paid, either.

Mm, I suppose you could say that the feelings are captured in more ways than just writing. It attracts certain monsters where I'm from because they're simply living shells that crave to have a heart of their own.

I don't really care about pay, so long as I can keep myself busy. I would attempt to pick up any skill if it's needed of me. To be of any help is enough for me.

..monsters that crave a heart of their own? Sounds more like C'ieth than anything.

That's gracious of you. Though it's starting to sound like you're just asking to be taken advantage of.

I can't say I've ever heard of C'ieth, myself.

Ah, that may be, but I'll try to avoid that. I'm just bad at staying in one place for very long-- I'm used to constantly being on the move.

It's better that way.

...you traveled often?

Yes, I was a Letter Bee. We traveled the country by foot to deliver letters and packages across all three districts.

The idea of delivering letters and packages by foot...it seems silly almost. Your world didn't have advanced technology? No other means to communicate?

If you mean like this Junogam, we did not. Is it common in other worlds?

Traveling between towns was very dangerous, but we could rent wagons and horses if we cared to. Most Letter Bees prefer traveling on foot though because of the paths we need to take. They usually aren't carriage-friendly.

Ah, although I suppose there's Jiggy Pepper. He had a bike that he powered with his Heart. He did express deliveries.

Right, that's exactly what we mean. Most messages were send via electronic devices, or at least posted on an online bulletin.

...power of the Heart, huh? I take it that's something common in your world?

Ahh, I see. Perhaps that technology just hadn't reached Amberground.

Everyone has Heart, just not everyone can use it. It's like your spirit.

Does it work like magic then?

I'm not sure I'd call it magic. It's mostly...

[ He has not thought about this before. Hm. ]

I suppose it's like channeling your feelings. You need spirit amber to properly control it, which is hardened sap with an insect inside. A long time ago, insects were very close to the earth and could tap into the Heart in the land, so it's residual of that.

Or so the handbook says, anyway.

...fascinating. I've never heard of anything like that befor.e

It's interesting to see how different everyone's home worlds really are.
