Tonight is a big night for the country, but also a big night for my company! Current and Twitter are working together to put as many tweets as possible right up on the TV screen during the debates. Unlike other networks who have recently jumped on the Twitter bandwagon by picking and choosing a few tweets to illustrate their points, Current is going to be putting as much public opinion as we can cram in -- and that meets broadcast standards, of course -- onto our TV network overlayed on top of the Presidential debate.
We've been working toward this for a while. It's not easy to build all the systems that sync up the web and TV, and we've built a lot of things from scratch. It's entirely possible that we'll be the first network to use Flash for data visualizations in TV, which is (believe me) way way cooler than I can make it sound here. Flash! On TV! Trust me. It's a big deal.
I would love to see lots of Twittering LJers show up on our broadcast! Go
HERE to learn how to participate. And if you just want to watch the debate with us, along with all the wonderful Twitter commentary, you can find Current in these places:
directv - Channel 366
dish network - Channel 196
comcast - Channel 107
time warner: Channel 103 (New York City), Channel 142 (Los Angeles), other markets, check local listings
verizon FIOS - Channel 130
at&t u-verse - Channel 189
We'll also be live streaming the debate, along with the Twitter commentary overlay, on our
WEBSITE. We'll be replacing the debate promo that's sitting in the player now, and putting the streaming player in it's place.
Please, please, please check out this broadcast. Even if you would prefer to watch another network -- though, why would you? -- for the bulk of the debates, I would love to have you all check out our programming and let me know what you think.
