OOC - a question for serious RPers

Aug 09, 2008 13:31

So, what do you do when you just don't feel like RP-ing? There isn't necessarily anything going on in your life, no real commitments to tend to, and there hasn't been any drama in RP land. It's just that you look at the tags in your inbox and cringe because you just don't have the drive to reply to any of them. It's as if anything you write is ( Read more... )

Obviously you've been elf-shot. :)

Seriously, it happens to me and I'm sure everyone else from time to time. Start by seeing if there are any threads you can end where they are and then tell everyone you are taking a mental health break and get away from the computer or at least away from RP for a day. Sometimes all it takes me is a day away, sometimes it takes two or three.

*hugs* Thanks, hon. I don't think it's been helping that things are kind of hectic at this house. I didn't think it was bothering me (besides the times when I can't physically access my computer) but I guess it might be. Odd.

The same thing happens to me when I can't get to the computer and tags pile up. I just get to where I don't even want to think about them.

Happens to me on occasion too. Most of the time, as has been said already, it's just a matter of stepping away from it for a while. Finish up what you can, talk to the muns of the stuff that you can't, and just take a break. Come back after a day or twelve and see how you feel. ((hugs))

I think I'll be doing that. If I take twelve, Will will kill me, though. :)

Yeah well, if he stays away that long Wes might be back when he returns. ;)

I suspect it happens to all of us. Oddly, my boy is missing yours, and yet I haven't felt much like RPing either. He's gonna kick my ass. But I'm sure we'll get it together soon!

Hee! Will misses Orli, too. How in the world can we let them get their fixes if we don't feel like RPing? Poor boys.

Maybe Will needs to do a love by. It's been a while since he's played around for the sake of being a goofy loveball.

Orli would love that.

This happens to me now and again. I think it's an RP form of writers block, which every writer gets from time to time. I've found its mostly nothing to worry about and my inspiration comes back full force, but there have been times I've have to put a pup on hiatus to give him/her and me a nap from writing them for awhile or I've found on one or two occasions that pup has just come to his/her time to fade to black.

I've RP'd literally for years and I've always found the need to take a break or a breather from RP'ing is just a need sometimes. I wouldn't worry :) It happens to even the best, most successful writers in the world.

Ooh, good call! You know, I never thought of it as writer's block, but that makes total sense. I've also had this story floating around in my head that has nothing at all to do with RP. Maybe if I get a few pages out, it'll be the break I need. :D

What's worked for me best when I feel uninspired about RP is to just write something for myself. Whatever character I want, doing whatever I want, with whatever other character or just themselves if I want. That usually helps. And like the others said, just take a few days away from the computer.

We'll be around when you come back.

Thanks, hon. I think I'll do just that. If I can get some of the other stuff out of my head, it'll let me get back to my boys. It's just kind of disconcerting to try to reply to something good and draw a total blank. Mulder's annoyed but he'll have to get in line and be patient. ;)

Jason and the Dogma story line and our plans after will still be here. No worries.

Just write that whatever it is that's flowing around in your mind. Rest, step away from the keyboard or whatever it is you need to do.

Jason will wait, if it were Bastard Jason THEN they'rd be problems. :)
