So, this cold weather was all fun and games until last night. Yeah, it's true that I was colder than I have ever been before when I had to wait for the bus at 6:30 AM with the temperature hovering at -9 and the windchill around -30. Really, it wasn't all that bad except for the fact that my legs were freezing (that never happened before). It's been getting warmer too! I mean, it was 15 yesterday with some nice snow and, trust me, that you could feel the improvement. I never thought 15 degrees would feel so pleasant, and it might even get up into the 30's by next week. Yes, it's also still a bit chilly inside the apartment, but a blanket does the trick when the heat isn't blowingand we've been fine. Last night, however, a pipe decided to burst in the ceiling, creating a small flood before we discovered it. Actually, we got kind of lucky because the cascading water was in an out of the way spot so nothing was damaged. However, all the guy could do last night was turn off the water and tell me that he'll be back as soon as they know what they will be doing. Apparently, several bulidings he was working on had the same issue. So, no water. We still had some good Mexican food for dinner.
This morning, I'm greeted by a knock on the back door by two guys to come look at the spot. One of them proceded to knock a big hole in the wall near the ceiling (making quite a mess on the floor, I might add), look up into the hole, repeat "oh my God" in both English and Spanish, say something about a kitchen (I understood "cocina") to the other guy and tell me they'll be back in "five minutes" to clean and maybe more. Of course, I know nothing else because neither of them had much command of the English language and I have no command of Spanish, but he motioned at the mess before they walked out. I do hear some banging around from upstairs, so maybe they're going to take care of it that way. I have no idea, but it's been longer than five minutes. We still have no water, of course. That's all I have for now. This will be the best day off ever.
