When I was a young boy,
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band.
He said,
"Son when you grow up, will you be the saviour of the broken,
The beaten and the damned?"
He said
"Will you defeat them, your demons, and all the non believers, the plans that they have made?
Because one day I leave you,
A phantom to lead you in the summer,
To join the black parade."

One of the nice things about growing up is me and my dad have reached an understanding and a peace. There was a time in high school where we were very hostile with each other and now we talk to each other every few days. In November I go to Las Vegas to see him give a keynote speech for a medical organization.
My dad is 53-years-old. Relatively young compared to the parents of a lot of my friends. Yet, its been coming apparent that one day he will not be here. I pray its much much later rather than sooner but I know one day I won't have my parents anymore. One day I will truly be alone and that feeling is....crushing.
Dad was at the A&M/Army game. I had been in San Antonio all weekend for that game and he was there for meeting. Of the 72 hours we were in the same town, we saw each other a total amount of 15 minutes. I could have rented a car and ensured we saw more of each other.
I guess if it means anything, I am happy I am so close to my parents now. And I am looking forward to continuing to grow and have their guidance while I do so.
