mnight introduced me to a liqueur called American Honey. The liqueur is made from Wild Turkey bourbon and honey. But wait. Isn't Wild Turkey a cross of rot gut and paint stripper? I assure you each bottle contains nothing but pure liquid gold.
While sipping on glass of this liquid gold, I started thinking about How I could use it in a mixed drink. I decided it could be used as a substitute for the sweet ingredient of many cocktails. On the way home I stopped to pick up a bottle then set out to start experimenting. After much deliberating I decided the safest place to start would be with the most basic cocktail, the old fashioned. I'm happy to report the experiment was a complete success.
The Old Fashioned Honey Creek
4 oz Knob Creek bourbon
1/2 oz American Honey liqueur
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Pour the American Honey, 1 oz of Knob Creek, and bitters into an old fashioned glass and stir.
Coat the glass with the mixture.
Add ice
Pour in the remainder of the Knob Creek
You should adjust the proportions above to suit your taste.
I think using a good American rye for the base instead of another bourbon would work better, but I have none in my liquor cabinet at the moment.
