I spent the last day of 2010 just how I spent all the other days of 2010 - movies, FFA, and too much snack food. I watched The Darjeeling Limited, which I enjoyed. (I even watched the making-of documentary. Wes Anderson was wearing a white suit. I like white suits.) New Year's Day I got up early, after only five hours of sleep, for a day trip to the farm to visit my grandparents. I mostly slept and read while I was there, but I also ate butter pecan ice cream.
I'm back at school now for my January class. It's three hours a day, but just four days a week, for three weeks. It's called Sci-Fi in Film and we read four sci-fi novels (The Time Machine, Fail Safe, The Handmaid's Tale, and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?) and compare them to the films based off the books. And we do an independent project where we pick our own book and film, and just write a slightly longer comparison paper. I'm doing mine on Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. There's tons of differences between the book and movie. I could even include references to the BBC series, since I own those DVDs.
I had a 50% off Borders coupon and a $5 gift card, so yesterday I bought
this. It's The Cult TV Book, and it's full of neat articles on what makes a cult show, how cult shows and networks affect each other, and what cult show fandoms are like. And I bought it for only about $3.50. (I really wanted the Fitz & The Tantrums album because I can't stop listening to "Moneygrabber", but Borders didn't have the CD. I will remain on the lookout.)
