We all have cell phones, so come on, let's get real

If you ever have the oppertunity to go to a Weird Al concert DO IT. The man puts on an amazing show.

There was stuff from his latest album, Straight Outta Lynwood, some concert-specific songs, and a lot his classics. And he and his band do a lot of costume changes, and we'd watch clips on the screen in the meantime. References to and guest spots from Al in movies and television, and these great interviews from Al TV. He'll take a celebrity interview, record his own questions, and edit it together into a hilarious new interview!

The whole concert was just so funny. It is Weird Al, after all. He's got one song called "Wanna B UR Lovr", which is pretty much a long string of really bad pick-up lines, and for that he went out into the crowd and sang to women. When he did "The Saga Begins", which takes the plot from Star Wars Episode I and the music from "American Pie", he had a bunch of Stormtroopers and a Vader up on stage. They even had the "Smells Like Nirvana" cheerleaders up there. During "You're Pitiful", he came out in the James Blunt windbreaker, and took that off to reveal a really cheesy shiny shirt, then an 'I'm with Stupid' shirt, then 'Tom is my only friend', and then a Spoungebob tee with heart boxers and a tutu. Epic!

They did the classic "Amish Paradise" in full black and beards, and I'm like, what's going to top that? Then was "White & Nerdy" on a Segway, and again, what comes next? He ended the show with "Fat", puffy suit and all. YES. For encore, they did the "We all have cell phones, so come on, let's get real" song from the REM interview, and everyone got out their cell phone and waved it in the dark auditorium and it looked amazing. Then he did Albequerque, which is normally an eleven minute song, and he stretched it out to be about twenty minutes. There was a period in the show that was pretty much a half-hour long medley, he went from song to song for the longest time. My personal favorite song of the whole night was one I'd never heard before, a parody of "I'm In Love With A Stripper". Al sang "I'm In Love With The Skipper" in the Gilligan get-up, red shirt and white hat. Brilliant.

I got a t-shirt, green with the words White & Nerdy and a line-drawing of Al from that video. It's too big, but I guess I can shrink it in the wash. I went with James, Tim, and Aidan, and we all had a really great time, especially Aidan, since it was his first concert.

So if Weird Al ever comes to your town, go see him. If he goes to a town near you, make the drive. The man is an absolute genius, and the show is incredibly fun.

out and about, music
