Obligatory Snowpocalypse post

Feb 02, 2011 16:47

Watched the the news closely to determine that yes, switching my telecommuting day and going in to Office of Doom yesterday was a Good Idea, since the snow was supposed to start around rush hour and I go home at 2pm. So that's what I did. The snow, of course, promptly proceeded to start coming down in earnest in Villa Park at 1:50 pm. *facepalm*

Two hours for a normally-40-minute commute wouldn't have been that big a deal -- it was never especially scary, just slow, though I passed a couple accidents -- except of course that it just had to be the day I was guesting on the BH fan podcast at, you guessed it, 4pm. Pulled into the garage at 4:06, messaged the host that I'd be another five minutes, and scrambled inside where my brainiacfive had started up my netbook and opened Skype for me. :: blows kisses :: So that worked out.

BigBossLady declared Office of Doom closed today before the day was out yesterday, but it's still just as well that I went in because I still got the stuff done that needed to be done there, which I normally would have done today. Just means I was home today not working (on OoD) instead of working.

Which is good, because there was that whole necessity of starting to dig out the driveway. I say "starting" because the drifts were between knee-deep and hip-deep at various points, and it took the two of us two hours to get about a third of it cleared. brainiacfive is back out there for a while, because he is insane indomitable, and I need to start dinner soon. I dunno if Office of Doom will be closed again tomorrow -- apparently Chicago Public Schools are, which has to be even rarer than the fact that they were today for the first time since 1999 -- but at this point I'm thinking I'll be working here if it is. We shall see.

Took a few pics, as you do. Here's the view out the back door when I got up this morning. This one is the drift against our side storm door.

Very glad to be inside and cozy with power and heat and cable and Internet.
