  • We can has femme_fic! Signup and rules post is here. The mods have changed from the matchup model to a prompt-claiming format this time around, meaning you don't have to participate in order to submit (up to three) prompts. The fandom field is wide open, and prompt submission is open until 8/16.

  • Dryer still borked. What with the weekend being all about WATCH ALL THE VIDS, the hunt for the centrifugal switch has been on hold. I'm going to carve out a chunk of Friday to call around to a bunch of repair shops and see if there isn't one hiding in a corner somewhere. In the meantime, the rain we were supposed to get today didn't happen, and there's even a nice breeze going on. So with any luck, the sheets I washed after work today will be ready to put on our bed tonight. This would be a Really Good Thing.

  • I am ITCHY. I was outside for all of ten minutes the other day, caulking a leaky basement window, and got eaten alive. I would love to know what it is that has made the little monsters come after me liek woah for my entire life. I'm like Bella Swan for mosquitoes instead of sparklepires. But with less moping and needing to be slapped.

  • How did it get to be August 11?? Too much costuming needs done before Dragon*Con!

  • Audition this afternoon (for the pro classical theatre with the added benefit of being 10 minutes from Office of Doom) felt pretty good. Especially for using a piece I picked on the spur of the moment last night, because they wanted "short classical, preferably not Shakespeare." I went with Christina Rossetti's "Monna Innominata" sonnet 11, which gives a nicely specific sense of character for both the speaker and the addressee. Directors typically don't like to hear sonnets for Shakespeare because they don't have a larger story to be part of, but for this situation it worked because (a) "Monna Innominata" is fourteen related sonnets that do tell a story, in a way, and (b) the show I'm up for is constructed from Poe stories and poetry. So it was a good opportunity to do something a bit unconventional, and I've immediately become very fond of it. And it got a good reaction from the artistic director, so maybe I'll find something else to use it for in future.

  • There is something supremely wiggy about "Free to Be You and Me" being used in commercials. I suspect this is not the effect Target is looking for.

  • I will have vid recs from VVC for you by the weekend. Pinky swear!

fanfic, home, vidding, audition
